The Edmonton police gang unit is stepping in to help investigate after several shots were fired at a downtown afterhours club early Sunday morning.

The shooting happened at the Twilight afterhours club near 105th Street 100th Avenue just before 3 a.m.

Witnesses told CTV News someone came into the club and fired about several shots inside the club before going outside and firing a few more shots.

One of those stray bullets ended up making a hole in the door of a historic Presbyterian church.

Some people at the club say they saw the gunman and his friends flee the scene in a green vehicle.

Police now say they followed a vehicle that left the area after the shooting using a police helicopter.  The vehicle was later stopped and five people were detained.

Those five people are now being questioned, but police are not calling them suspects yet.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

In November 2007 Thanh Van Phan was stabbed to death at Twilight and three people were murdered at the club in Oct. 2006 when it was called the Red Light Lounge.
