About 200 parents in Sherwood Park are hoping to score big with Strathcona County councillors Tuesday when they go head-to-head with them to ask for more space to play hockey.
The Sherwood Park Minor Hockey Association called on its membership recently to show up en masse at Tuesday's public open house council meeting after weeks of having no place to play.
The group is calling on councillors to set aside money for new ice surfaces in the upcoming budget.
The frustration reached its peak weeks ago after a broken compressor at the Broadmoor Arena broke, shutting down the building for hockey teams for more than two weeks.
The breakdown then put extra stress on the area's existing rinks, such as the ageing Ardrossan Recreation Centre and Millennium Place.
Local minor hockey president Justin Dahlen said the lack of ice time is becoming a large frustration for both players and parents.
The number of players in the novice division has increased from 200 to more than 300 in the last four years with no new rinks opening in the area.
A decision is not expected to be made until the budget is finalized.
