The hot September weather is helping the city catch up on some of its construction projects.

The sunny, dry weather has put some roadwork back on schedule, allowing for some extra work to get done.

"The contractors have worked longer hours, more days, weekends. They realize there's only a short time," said Barry Belcourt with the City of Edmonton.

And many workers say they're willing to work in the sweltering heat in order to catch up from a wet summer.

"I'm grateful for any weather that's not rain," said Jason Charlesworth, who works as a framer. "We were able to not only catch up. I think we're moving forward on a lot of projects."

And many Edmontonians are doing what they can to squeeze in a few extra hours of sunlight.

"It's finally summer. It came late, but it's awesome," said Giordano Morgulis.

Outdoor patios are also seeing a boost in business.

Definitely when it's hot out, that's when we get hit the hardest," said Janelle Rozak with Julio's Barrio.

It's the city's hope to complete the following road projects by the end of the season: Lessard Road, Callingwood Road, 199 St., Fort Road, Rabbit Hill Road, 170th St. and 118th Ave.
