The RCMP reveal the human remains discovered near Westlock earlier in the week have been identified.

Police say the remains were found by two ATV drivers who were out for a ride on Victoria Day. It has been confirmed the remains have now been positively identified as those of 62-year-old Neil Douglas Thomson.

The man had been living alone in a secluded rustic cabin in the rural area west of Dapp, Alta. Thomson had not been seen by his family since last November.

His cabin was found locked and vacant on November 14th. Police say he was suffering from medical ailments and his family was worried about his well being.

The cause of death has not been determined at this point.
