Hundreds of volunteers turned out for the first day of delivery of Santas Anonymous packages.
The organization has collected gifts for 25,000 children and is expecting over 1,000 volunteers to help hand them out.
Executive director Lana Nordlund said it has been a Christmas tradition since 1955.
“It’s just something that people like to do year after year.
“We have people who come in from out of town who want to assist because they did it when they lived in Edmonton,” she added.
Volunteers say the occasion helps to strengthen the community.
“It’s amazing how everybody, during Christmas, pulls together and does what they can for everybody,” Cpl. Dave Jones told CTV News.
“I’m really glad to see so many cars lined up actually. It makes you feel good,” Bertha Ng said, adding she had been involved with delivery for the last four years.
“It’s really fun to spread the cheer.”
Nordlund said they would still be accepting donations at their mall drop boxes until December 20.
