Corrections Canada officials confirmed Friday that an inmate at a correctional facility west of Edmonton had died.

Officials said on Thursday, Martin Lucien Roch, 42, an inmate at the Grande Cache Institution was found in medical distress.

Immediately, officials said staff started performing CPR, and paramedics were called – Roch was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:18 p.m.

At the time of his death, officials said Roch had been serving a sentence of 2 years, 5 months for dangerous driving convictions – his sentence started October 30, 2012/

Police and the coroner have been notified of the death, and Correctional Service of Canada officials are reviewing circumstances surrounding the incident.
