Weeks after the legal counsel for an Edmonton Member of Parliament asked for records of all communication between police officers on the night he was pulled over and arrested – a judge has denied the request.

In mid-November, Dino Bottos, the lawyer for Edmonton East MP Peter Goldring, asked for more records of police communications from the night Goldring was pulled over by police and then arrested and charged for not providing a breath sample.

At the time, Goldring said he had consumed one beer at a Christmas party in his riding, and was not impaired.

On November 16, Bottos asked for records of all communication between police officers in North Division between 11:19 p.m. on December 3, and 1:45 a.m. the next day.

The request for evidence came days after Goldring officially entered a not-guilty plea to the charge.

On Friday, Bottos is expected to launch a challenge – claiming Goldring’s Charter rights were violated.
