Police in a community just north of Red Deer are investigating what appears to be a case of graffiti on a school wall that sparked fear in school administration Monday.

Lacombe police were called to JS McCormick School Monday, on reports of an apparent bomb threat in graffiti on the school

The message spray-painted on the exterior wall stated ‘There is a bomb inside’.

School officials and police evacuated the school within minutes, with students going to the nearby Lacombe Upper Elementary School – before police searched the school.

After some investigation, police said the threat appeared to be a hoax.

However, school officials decided to send the students home for the rest of the day.

Lacombe Police said a criminal investigation into the incident is underway, and ask anyone with information to call Lacombe Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
