An Edmonton woman is raising money for charity in memory of her husband and two young daughters who died in a tragic crash one year ago.

Alana Baxter, along with family and friends, is hoping to raise $30,000 dollars for the Stollery Children's Hospital in Saturday's fundraiser.

Her husband, John Baxter and their two daughters Julianne Rose, 9, and Coral Sky, 7, were killed at a CN Rail crossing on May 4th, 2010.

"I wanted them to be remembered for something besides the way they passed away" said Alana Baxter.

"It's been a difficult, difficult year for me and I wanted to do something positive on that anniversary so that I could move forward in my life. And almost, in a way, let go. Not let go of the memory of them, but accept what happened."

John Baxter was driving his daughters to school when their pickup truck collided with a VIA Rail train just after 8:30 a.m.. They were hit at the Winterburn Road and 111th Ave. crossing.

The Transportation Safety Board is expected to release a final report in the coming weeks.

The event was held at Westview Village Community Centre and is expected to wrap up around 10 p.m. Saturday.
