A 42-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead in hospital Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle and then dragged by an oncoming truck for nearly 30 blocks.

CTV News has learned the victim, 42-year-old Brian Bone, was a street person who police knew well.

The incident happened at 118 Ave. and 50th St. around 11 p.m. when police say the victim was hit by a westbound Dodge Dakota travelling in the inside lane. The pedestrian was thrown into another lane and was then struck by an oncoming Ford F-150 pickup.

The man was dragged for nearly 30 blocks before the driver came to a stop at 120th Ave. and 76th St.

"I can't believe that he was dragged 20 blocks under a truck and landed over here. It's hard to believe that," said Leon Martin who lives near the scene.

Bone was still alive when emergency crews arrived, but he was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Police say charges are pending against the driver of the pickup truck. They are working to determine whether alcohol played a role in the incident.
