A 24-year-old man is facing charges after Strathmore RCMP responded to a 911 call, of an intoxicated male allegedly attempting to drown a baby.

RCMP were called to the Kinsmen Lake in Strathmore at 5 p.m. Saturday after witnesses reported a man who appeared to be intoxicated had walked into the lake with a small child and appeared to be drowning it.

It's not known if the man in his intoxicated state thought he was giving the child a bath in the lake.

When police arrived, the man was arrested – and both the man and 20-month-old girl were taken to hospital. Both were later released.

24-year-old Clinton Sunwalk of Siksika First Nation is charged with failing to provide the necessities of life and breaching bail conditions.

Sunwalk was out on bail at the time, related to previous assault charges and breaching court orders in April.

Sunwalk will appear in Strathmore Provincial Court on July 5.
