A central-Alberta man is dead after a collision between a train and a pick-up truck southeast of Edmonton.

Wainwright RCMP say the fatal collision happened early Sunday morning at Range Road 75 south of Fabyan, Alta.

Police and emergency crews were called to the collision at 6:30 a.m., where they found a pick-up truck had rolled into the north ditch next to the Canadian National Railway rail.

RCMP say the 42-year-old male driver of the truck, from Irma, Alta., was killed when his vehicle was truck by a CN train travelling westbound.

The CN line was closed for several hours while RCMP and CN police investigated.

Police say the rail crossing lights and warning arms were fully functional and operating properly at the time of the collision.

Alcohol and speed are not considered factors in the collision.

Two CN employees in the train were not injured in the collision and damage to signals that occurred during the crash has since been fixed.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have information call RCMP at 780-842-4463.
