A man is recovering in hospital after going over the second level railing at West Edmonton Mall early this morning.

Police say the 25-year-old man was rushed from the scene in critical condition at around 1:30 a.m., after he jumped from the second floor inside the mall and landed on the main level.

The man remains in hospital with an injury to his head.

Police said it appears the man was talking to a friend on the first floor when he went over the railing.

"Police do believe alcohol was a factor, but we don't expect that any charges will be laid in this incident," EPS spokesperson Patrycia Thenu said.

Investigators said it's not yet clear if he was trying to jump into the lagoon.
