A man was sent to hospital in critical condition early Sunday morning after being hit by a car downtown.

Police say they were called to the scene of the collision at 112 Street and 104 Avenue just before 1 a.m. Sunday.

Sgt. Mike Hickey with the Edmonton Police Service says a vehicle travelling eastbound on 104 Avenue struck a man who was crossing the intersection.

“The pedestrian ended up suffering some pretty significant head injuries,” Hickey tells CTV News.

The man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital and police say he was in stable condition later Sunday.

No charges have been laid as police continue to investigate.
