After a weeks-long trial, revisiting the murder of 13-year-old Nina Courtepatte and the death of Ellie May Meyer, one of the men accused in connection to their deaths has heard the court's decision.
Michael Briscoe was being re-tried for his role in Courtepatte's death in 2005.
She was lured from West Edmonton Mall, and then sexually assaulted and killed at a rural golf course.
A month after Courtepatte's death, the body of Ellie May Meyer was found in a field in Strathcona County, she had died two days before the teenager was killed.
In 2007, Briscoe was the only person out of five accused to be acquitted in the Nina Courtepatte case.
Briscoe was re-tried on appeal, and the charges in relation to Ellie May Meyer's death were added, his co-accused in both cases, Joseph Laboucan had already been found guilty in both cases.
On Wednesday, Briscoe was found guilty of first degree murder for aiding Joseph Laboucan in the slaying of the teenager, and guilty of sexual assault and kidnapping for the same case.
Briscoe was found not guilty in Meyer's death.
