EDMONTON -- More than 50 people gathered outside Red Deer City Hall to protest against COVID-19 restrictions.

Protesters said they had gathered to fight for their civil liberties, chanting that mandatory masks were an act of repression.

No fines were given out for exceeding the 10 person outdoor gathering limit.

There are about 170 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer.
