The provincial government has announced its plan to carry out a royalty review – naming a chair to the advisory panel, and an outline of their plan for the coming months.
Dave Mowat, President and CEO of ATB Financial, has been named chair of the province’s royalty review advisory panel.
“This is an important issue for Alberta families and it is important we do it right,” Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd said. “The government is asking Mr. Mowat and this panel to carefully consider the issues and to undertake a meaningful engagement with stakeholders and Albertans.”
“I have a strong sense of how important this is not only Albertans but the whole country gets it right,” Mowat said. “It’s a daunting challenge but I think it’s a great opportunity to help people from around Alberta understand such important issues.”
Mowat’s first job as chair will be to recruit more members for the panel – the province said the panel’s work should be finished by the end of the year.
The province also said further steps on the royalty review will be released over the summer.
