A Calgary man died in a motorcycle crash at the Castrol Raceway in Leduc Sunday afternoon.

The collision happened around 1 p.m. and police responded to the track at approximately 2:30 p.m.

RCMP said the 29-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in the crash. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead later.

Colin Huggins, Castrol Raceway’s general manager, told CTV News the crash happened during a race organized by the Edmonton Motorcycle Roadracing Association.

EMRA President Jon Bullee identified the victim as Sean Henderson and issued the following statement to CTV News:

"The EMRA is deeply saddened and would like to extend deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sean Henderson. Sean was an incredible racer with a true passion for the sport. He lived his life to the absolute fullest traveling the world with friends and family. His charm, smile and sense of humor will be remembered by everyone in the racing community."

Huggins said this is the first fatal at Castrol Raceway.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time,” he said. “It’s an awful thing. It’s the first time it’s ever happened related to our park.”

RCMP are investigating the crash.
