The city is investing $201.1 million to spruce up 96 neighbourhoods across Edmonton. Many neighbourhoods will see an improvement to streets, sidewalks, street lights and drainage systems.

Crews have already started to install new sidewalks in mature neighbourhoods such as Fulton Place. Other neighbourhoods across the city will see new drainage pipes, an improved parks system, street repaving, alley reconstructions, upgraded street and alley lighting and street pole upgrades.

"It's a significant investment the city is making to improve the livability of neighbourhoods," said Stephane Labonne, director for the office of Great Neighbourhoods.

The 2011 investment also includes improved landscaping, and the addition of pedestrian lighting in a neighbourhood park.

"Ultimately, this is all about building great neighbourhoods," said Labonne.
