The father of a 6-year-old boy who died after being hit by a bus last week teared up as he described his son’s last moments.

“When the end came Thomas did not cry out in fear or pain,” Jeff Wedman said during a memorial service Friday night.

“He was just swallowed up and left this world.

“My beautiful baby son was here and then before my eyes he was gone.”

Hundreds of friends, family and community members gathered at North Pointe Church to remember the young boy, who was described as an active, imaginative spirit.

“He liked nothing more than to make people laugh. If he found a joke that accomplished this you inevitably would have the pleasure of hearing it over and over for the rest of the day,” Jeff said.

Thomas’ family said it has been the support of coworkers and the boy’s friends from Beavers that have given them the courage to get through the difficult time.

“For the first 48 hours after his death I felt nothing but pain, sorrow and anger. How could a life that did nothing but bring joy and happiness to everyone around him be so suddenly and cruelly taken,” Jeff asked, adding that he despaired when he thought about what could have been.

“My beautiful son was an angel and I can no longer hold him in my arms, hear his beautiful laughter or feel his wonderful hugs.”

Jeff explained that he has told his other sons, who had also been with their brother the morning of the incident, that Thomas was now an angel.

“The full truth of the matter was that Thomas had always been an angel.”

The family also put together a special video that included clips Thomas took himself on his iPad.
