Edmonton police said Wednesday that charges had been laid against the driver of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a fatal hit and run crash dating back nearly two weeks.

Police said Wednesday that David Gershon Bookhalter, 60, had been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident knowing bodily harm was caused, and failure to stop at the scene of an accident knowing death was caused.

On Monday, May 11 at about 8:15 p.m., a vehicle travelling northbound on 122 Street made a left-hand turn at Whitemud Drive, and hit a motorcycle that was headed southbound on 122 Street – with a 24-year-old mane and 26-year-old woman on board.

Investigators said the pair was thrown from the motorcycle, the male, who was driving, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated on the scene before being taken to hospital by paramedics.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene – police said both were wearing helmets at the time.

The driver of the car fled the scene, he was later found and arrested in west Edmonton.
