A former Edmontonian man was robbed and shot in Houston, Texas early Sunday as he walked to a mosque.

30-year-old Arsalan Tajammul was walking to the Madrasah Islamiah mosque around 5:30 a.m. when a vehicle pulled up and the passenger demanded his wallet before he was robbed of his belongings and then shot, the leader of the mosque told ABC13 Houston.

Three suspects are on the run.

Tajammul is an eye doctor in the Muslim community in Houston. He went to J. Percy Page High School and the University of Alberta while he lived in Edmonton.

The former Edmontonian is being treated in intensive care and is expected to make a full recovery.

No arrests have been made at this time, but police continue to investigate the incident.
