A health care attendant accused of sexually assaulting elderly disabled patients was granted bail Thursday, and will be released from custody.

A judge granted bail to 25-year-old Brandon Harper on Thursday, and imposed a number of conditions.

The court appearance came a day after police charged harper with three charges of sexual assault, for allegedly taking advantage of two people in his care.

The assaults allegedly took place at the Good Samaritan Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre in 2011 and 2012 – officials from the centre reported their suspicions to police earlier this week.

“For an individual that's in a position of trust such as this person, obviously this is a very troubling crime…exploiting disabled victims,” said Scott Pattison with the Edmonton Police Service.

Police said one of the victims is severely disabled and the other has since passed away.

His bail was set at $1,000 and conditions include the accused must keep a job or stay in school and he must have no contact with the complainant.

He is scheduled to appear in court on August 16.
