Officials said a teenager was taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon, after she was pulled from a city pool.

The City of Edmonton told CTV News that at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, a 16-year-old female student from Eastglen School was pulled from the pool at the Eastglen Leisure Centre located at 114 Avenue and 68 Street.

A spokesperson said she was in the pool as part of a planned school activity, the Edmonton Public School Board said it was part of a Physical Education class.

An Edmonton Public Schools spokesperson said the girl’s classmate noticed she wasn’t surfacing during an underwater hockey-type game, the classmate grabbed the unconscious girl and helped pull her from the water.

Lifeguards acted quickly, performing CPR until she was revived and speaking – she was taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Alberta Health Services said the girl was in serious, but stable condition when she was taken to hospital.
