A 76-year-old pawnshop owner who was attacked in his store earlier this month has returned to work.

David Woolfson opened the doors to his shop, A1 Trading, Monday.

He says he is still dealing with headaches and pain in his ear, but says he's not feeling too emotional about returning to work.

The man did tell CTV News he will begin to close up his shop for good. He says he came to that decision while recovering at home from the attack.

"The time has come though that I have to get out of the business -- this has convinced me," Woolfson said.

Officers were called to the shop, located at 95 Street and 111 Avenue, around 4 p.m. on March 1st after some customers reported seeing the man badly beaten on the ground behind the shop's counter.

Detectives believe the man was assaulted with a hatchet that was located in the shop.

Kenneth Angus Campbell, 56, of St. Albert has now been charged with one count of robbery, one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.

Woolfson says the accused had been in his shop two or three days in a row.

"I didn't fear him, but I just didn't trust him -- I turned my head for one second…it was enough," the man said. "This was not a casual customer who took the opportunity to assault me -- this was a premeditated assault," he added.

CTV News has learned the accused owned his own pawnshop in St. Albert back in 2000. It appeared some e-Bay customers had some issues with his sales practices. He eventually went out of the pawnshop business shortly after he was convicted of weapons offences in 2002.

Campbell will appear in court on April 29th.
