The first appearance of a man charged in the death of a six-year-old St. Albert boy has been planned for Monday.

Joseph Allen has been charged with careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Allen was charged following an investigation into the death of Thomas Wedman on September 27, 2013.

Wedman died after being hit by a school bus while crossing Woodlands Road at Sir Winston Churchill Avenue in St. Albert.

Allen was charged last November and St. Albert Schools said he was no longer driving for the school division at that time.

First Student, the bus company that employs Allen said he has not driven a bus since the incident – and that it’s company policy to remove a driver from service pending a police, and internal investigation.
