Edmonton police are investigating after a man in his 20s was hit by a vehicle in the downtown area early Monday morning.

They say a man was struck, near 102 Street and 105 Avenue, around 1:30 a.m. Witnesses reported that the man was dragged nearly 5 metres by the vehicle, which fled the scene.

The 25-year-old male victim was rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital with serious injuries; at last word he remained unconscious in hospital, having suffered serious head injuries.

A minivan believed to have been involved was found a few blocks from the scene, it had been abandoned.

Police said later Monday morning the vehicle had been stolen.
