RCMP west of Edmonton are following up on several leads, after a rash of crime and livestock shootings in the area.

Police said they have recovered the bullets that were used to shoot several cows on a Stony Plain area farm earlier this week.

Earlier this week, three cattle on Wade Thordarson's were shot and killed, all of them had been owned by his 13-year-old daughter, Kassidy.

CTV News spoke to Kassidy Friday; she said she's still coming to terms with the loss of her two cows and calf.

"It's hard to trust people out there," Kassidy Thordarson said.

She said she had been raising the cattle as part of a 4H project, and spent several hours every day training, grooming, and looking after them – she was there when the calf, named Flora, was born.

"They were always coming up to me when I [went] out in the field, and they would always rub against my leg, wanting me to pet them," She said.

One of the cows lost in the shooting came from Cinder Angus in Barrhead, the business owner said he will give Kassidy a new calf.

"I can't imagine the heartbreak that she is going through, having to deal with this," Cinder Angus owner Brad Yoder said in a phone interview. "She works so much, and very hard."

RCMP are not only investigating the shooting at the Thordarson farm, but similar incidents at two other properties that left two other cows dead and a horse.

Investigators have recovered the bullets, and have uncovered new leads in the case.

"[We're speaking with] neighbours who have come forward, saying they heard gunshots that are relevant to the timeframe we're looking for," Insp. Gary Graham with Stony Plain RCMP said. "There is a vehicle of interest."

Investigators have determined a high powered rifle was used in the shootings; they are also using that evidence to find out whether the shootings are connected.

RCMP are investigating all three incidents and say once they have a more detailed vehicle description, they will release the information to the public.
