A former co-worker of an Alberta man accused of killing two prostitutes says Thomas Svekla once told him he had a dark past.

Gordon Janke testified at Svekla's trial that the two were having coffee after Christmas 2005 at the Fountain Tire in High Level where they worked.

Janke said Svekla looked sad and out of the blue said he had a dark past and had killed somebody.

Janke told court the information `freaked him out' but he didn't say anything about it.

Svekla is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Rachel Quinney, 19, and Theresa Innes, 36.

Quinney's body was found in a field east of Edmonton, while Innes's remains were discovered in a hockey bag belonging to Svekla.
