Emergency officials in central Alberta said three individuals had died, and two had been injured in a highway collision Tuesday morning.

The Deputy Chief at Clearwater Regional Fire Rescue Service, Paul Prevost, told CTV News that the call came in at 7:20 a.m. Tuesday on Highway 12 and Range Road 43.

RCMP said the incident took place at about 7:15 a.m.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision – RCMP said one of the trucks involved was headed westbound with two people inside, and the driver lost control of the vehicle, and it crossed into the path of a truck headed in the opposite direction.

Prevost confirmed three men had died in the crash – and two men had suffered injuries, they were taken to hospital in stable, non-life threatening condition.

Officials said all five men involved in the incident are in their mid-40s – two of the deceased were in one pickup truck, while the other was driving the other pickup truck involved in the crash – his two passengers were injured.

RCMP said at the time of the crash, the highways were icy due to recent snow fall, plummeting temperatures and wind gusts.

Alcohol and speed don’t appear to be factors in the crash.
