A painter from Morinville has been fined thousands for tax evasion.

The Canada Revenue Agency said Friday that a Morinville painter has been fined $14,096 after he pled guilty to charges of tax evasion.

The fine represents 50 per cent of federal taxes and GST that he evaded.

The CRA says Anthony Banks failed to report income from his business in the construction industry as a painter.

Court heart Banks failed to report income of $85,833 in 2006 and 2007 and failed to remit $6686 of GST for his contracting business.

The CRA audited Banks for 2006 and 2007 and found bank deposits were higher than the amounts that he had reported as income.

The unreported income consisted of invoices that weren’t given to the auditor during the audit, rather, it had to be obtained from court records.
