A man in his thirties is dead after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a parked vehicle in Edmonton's west end.

Just before 3:00 a.m. Thursday, a man travelling along 78 Avenue near 165 Street, crashed into the back of parked sedan and was thrown from his bike. A resident in the area heard the crash and called police.

Paramedics treated the man on the scene, and he was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police only identified the rider as a 38-year-old man. EPS said he was not wearing a helmet at the time.

While the investigation is still in the early stages, Edmonton police suggest speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
