Officials with the Edmonton Transit Service said Wednesday that the opening of the LRT’s new line, will have to be delayed to ensure the system works correctly.

The original completion date for the LRT NAIT Metro Line was set for April 2014; however, ETS told City Council Wednesday that it will be pushed back a few weeks.

The delay is to allow officials to ensure the line is integrated with the existing LRT – officials said they need to perfect the signalling system, test the system and train staff.

As a result of the delay, the Metro Line is expected to open to the public in June, 2014.

Officials said construction on the line has gone smoothly.
