A man living in a hamlet in northern Alberta is facing a number of child pornography-related charges, after authorities in southern Alberta began an investigation that led them north.

ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) South team said their child pornography investigation led them to Smith, Alberta, a hamlet located about 200 kilometres north of Edmonton.

With the help of Slave Lake RCMP, the team executed a search warrant in a home in that community on Jan. 30 – where a number of electronic devices were seized.

On Thursday, ICE South announced Stanley Malone, 60, of Smith, had been charged with accessing and possessing child pornography, and making it available.

According to ICE, at the time of his arrest, one of Malone’s occupations was as an area school bus driver.

Detectives are still working on the investigation – including conducting a forensic examination of the seized equipment.

Malone’s first court appearance was on Thursday, his next appearance has been scheduled for Feb. 4.
