Sherwood Park RCMP are investigating a fatal crash at the intersection of Baseline Road and Brower Drive.
RCMP said an SUV travelling westbound on Baseline Road was struck by a northbound car that proceeded through a flashing red light at Brower Drive. The two vehicles collided just before 5:00 a.m.
“Early indications are that the passenger car went against the flashing red light, went through intersection and struck the oncoming SUV,” Cpl. Darren Anderson with Strathcona County RCMP said.
The car had three passengers; one was pronounced dead on scene and the other two passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Baseline Road remained closed in the westbound lanes near Brower Drive, and the closure remained in place for several hours Thursday morning.
