RCMP have laid a number of charges against a man and a woman, after officers executed a search warrant, and found illicit drugs and weapons.

Stony Plain RCMP executed the search warrant in Stony Plain on Dec. 28 – and found more than 60 grams of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, thousands of dollars in cash and two sawed off shotguns.

Police said one of the shotguns was found loaded and unlocked – and was later found to have been stolen during a break-in near Morinville.

RCMP also searched a vehicle, which was seized through the Proceeds of Crime, and found a hidden compartment containing drugs, a phone and cash.

As a result, Dustin Whitrow, 28, of Stony Plain and Olivia Patterson, 26, of Edmonton are facing a number of drug and weapons charges, including, possession of a controlled substance, possession of the proceeds of crime, possession of a prohibited firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.

In addition, RCMP have charged Whitrow with breach of recognizance, and breach of a firearms prohibition related to a 2010 drug trafficking conviction in Saskatchewan.

Both of the accused appeared in a Stony Plain courtroom on Jan. 2, Patterson has been released on bail – but Whitrow remains in custody.

Their next appearance has been scheduled for Jan. 9.
