Officials in Strathcona County are asking residents to reduce their water use for a few days next week, as their main water supply is being moved.

The County said residents that receive piped water, including those living in Sherwood Park, Ardrossan, Josephburg, Josephburg Co-op, Half Moon Lake, Collingwood Cove, Antler Lake and rural residential areas should use less water between November 19 and 21.

Officials said efforts are needed as part of the area’s main water supply is being moved, to make way for upgrades to the northeast portion of the Anthony Henday.

“Using as little water as possible will help make sure our community’s water supply will last, should the construction take longer than anticipated,” Jeff Hutton, Director of Utilities said in a press release.

When the partial water ban is in effect, the County is asking residents to:

  • Take short showers instead of baths
  • Turn off taps while brushing teeth or shaving
  • Put off non-essential laundry and dishwashing
  • Ensure toilet leaks are fixed
  • Don’t wash vehicles
  • Postpone filling hot tubs, indoor pools or large aquariums

More information on the partial water ban can be found on the County’s website.
