EDMONTON -- A man has died after being struck by a train in Blackfalds, according to RCMP.

RCMP have identified the pedestrian as a 53-year-old man from Red Deer. His name will not be released.

The collision happened at a train crossing in the central Alberta town Wednesday night sometime after 4:30 p.m.

Police say the pedestrian was struck at Broadway Avenue and Gregg Street in the centre of town. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP say the cause of the collison remains under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.

The roadway and rail crossings were cleared to all traffic just after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
