A 20-year-old man was airlifted to hospital after a crash involving a train and a semi north of Edmonton on Tuesday.

Morinville RCMP responded to the crash in the area of Highway 44 near Township Road 571.

STARS flew the 20-year-old man to the University of Alberta Hospital. He sustained serious injuries, RCMP told CTV News Edmonton.

The truck was carrying lumber, Sturgeon County said.

The RCMP will investigate the crash, not CN, as police initially said.
