Less than a day after police began investigating an incident that left one man dead and a second injured, investigators have officially called the death a homicide, and identified the victim.

Edmonton police said Friday that the Medical Examiner had found Kyle Curtis Scheck, 26, died from a stab wound to the chest Thursday evening.

Police also said a second victim who was injured in the same incident remained in hospital Friday afternoon, recovering from multiple stab wounds.

The investigation began after police were called to a suite located near 128 Avenue and 65 Street at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, on reports of gunshots.

An EPS spokesperson told CTV News that officers arrived to find a deceased man, and another man was rushed to hospital with multiple stab wounds.

The injured man was found in the parking lot located on 128 Avenue and 66 Street.

Earlier Friday, police said a party had been going on in the suite at the time of the incident, and investigators were interviewing multiple witnesses.

The incident is believed to be drug and gang related, and police said they’re still looking for additional witnesses and suspects.
