Edmonton police are seeking information in the 2006 homicide case of 19-year-old Shawn Michael Yalowica.

On June 20, 2006,  police responded to Laser Karaoke located at 34 Ave and 99 St. after receiving reports gunfire in the area.

Officers discovered Yalowica, fatally wounded inside the doorway of the bar. Police said  two male suspects fled the scene. And the incident has been considered to be gang-related.

"We've learned the killing to be gang-related. And when I say it was gang related, I don't believe for one minute that Shawn Yalowica was part of that gang. Shawn was friends of members of that gang and he happened to have been there that night. I don't believe he was the intended victim of that shooting," said Det. Frank Metselaar with Edmonton police.

The victim's mother, Valerie Yalowica, released a written statement Tuesday on behalf of the family.

"Shawn's death was very tragic to the whole family and will not be forgotten. I think people who murder innocent victims should be sentenced for life without any chance of parole and punished to the fullest of their intentions."

The victim's mother is asking for anyone to come forward.

"We would like to know who did this to Shawn and why. So please speak up so the family can go on with their lives. It's been a total emptiness in my heart and it will never be the same without my dear son because he deserved to live and not die."

The mother describes her son as an avid sports fan who loved watching the Edmonton Oilers. His mother says the night he was killed her son was wearing an Oilers jersey and had been watching the Stanley Cup playoffs with his friends.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567.
