Homicide detectives were on scene at a Westmount apartment complex Monday around 10:45 a.m. after the body of a 43-year-old woman was found in one of the suites.

Police say the unnamed woman showed blunt force trauma to her upper body, but would not speculate on source of the upper body injuries.

Neighbours told CTV News they believe the woman lived alone, but had a boyfriend.

Multiple police cruisers were parked outside the building at 114 Ave and 132 Street throughout the afternoon.

Investigators were going door-to-door interviewing people who lived in the building.

Staff Sgt. Bill Clark with Edmonton's homicide unit told CTV Edmonton that the death looks like a homicide but an autopsy is needed for confirmation.

The death investigation marks a sixth for the Edmonton Police Service over the past six days.

Homicide investigators were already stretched thin after three suspicious deaths over the weekend, plus a double homicide discovered Wednesday by a city real estate agent in a home in southwest Edmonton.

“It’s been a crazy weekend,” said Clark on Sunday.

“The homicide unit is stretched to the limits. We’ve actually had to call in resources from other areas to help out.”

Pending results from the autopsies, the recent death investigations could bring the city’s homicide count to 12 for the year.
