Edmonton police said an investigation was underway into a stabbing that left one man in hospital with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon.

Police said officers in Northwest Division were called to a bus stop at the 118 Avenue underpass, near the Coliseum Transit Station, after passing drivers called 911 for assistance.

When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds to his upper body, which it is alleged he sustained during a fight with another male.

The man, believed to be in his early 20s, was taken to hospital by paramedics, where EPS said he was undergoing surgery late Tuesday afternoon.

One male suspect is in custody, and charges are pending.
