Edmonton police are investigating after two people suffered serious injuries following a pair of unrelated collisions on 118 Avenue overnight.
The first incident took place in the area of 118 Avenue and 81 Street at about 11 p.m. Monday, when a cyclist travelling northbound on 81 Street entered an intersection, and was hit by a westbound van.
Paramedics treated the man, who police said was in his 20s or 30s on the scene, before rushing him to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Less than an hour later, a woman was hit in an alleged hit-and-run in the area of 78 Street and 118 Avenue.
The woman was also treated on the scene, and rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
As a result of the collisions, a section of 118 Avenue between 77 and 82 Streets was closed for several hours early Tuesday morning.
It’s not clear if charges could be laid.
