Police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old man in connection to an armed robbery at a Sawmill restaurant on the city's south side.

Christopher John Saunders has been charged with robbery, disguised with intent and possession of a weapon.

On January 19th around 8:45 p.m., police say two male suspects dressed in dark clothing entered the Sawmill restaurant on Calgary Trail and demanded money. Police say the suspects in the robbery were armed with machetes.

They left with an undisclosed amount of cash and were seen fleeing the scene in a green-coloured Honda or Acura with partial plate ‘ZAS.'

Police believe the accused didn't act alone and are continuing to investigate two persons of interest.

"What was a concern about this particular case was the level of violence. There were a number of customers and staff in the business at the time of the incident," said Det. Rob Paton with Edmonton police.

The 22-year-old was was arrested without incident Wednesday morning.
