Edmonton police are asking the public for help in identifying a man believed to be responsible for a recent sexual assault on a woman in the south side.

Police say the attack happened at around 4:15 p.m. last Sunday near 109 Street and 73 Avenue.

The 22-year-old woman was walking alone, leaving a nearby home, when she saw a man walking towards her.

The man knocked her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

He is described as:

  • Caucasian
  • 18-24 years old
  • Between 167 cm to 172 cm (5'6" to 5'8")
  • Slim build
  • Possibly with brown hair in a pony tail

After the assault, the victim ran to 109 Street and was driven to another home by a passing driver who was in the car with a passenger.

Police would like to speak to the driver and passenger who picked up the victim.

There have been several sexual assaults in the Whyte Avenue area so far this year, however investigators do not believe the July 8 attack is linked to any other sexual assaults currently under investigation.

They have released a sketch of the suspect along with an iamge of a T-Shirt similar to the one worn by the attacker on the night of the assault.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-TIPS (8477).
