Hobbema RCMP have identified the victim of a fatal shooting on the Samson Cree Nation as 23-year-old Chelsea Yellowbird.

Officers say Yellowbird died as a result of a gunshot injury.

The shooting happened just before 3 a.m. on Labour Day.

Police said when they arrived at the scene, the victim was found suffering from numerous gunshot wounds to her face and upper body.

CTV News was told Yellowbird is the aunt of five-year-old Ethan Yellowbird, who was killed in July in a drive-by shooting. The young child was shot in the head while asleep in his bed.

No one has been charged in his death yet.

Both the homes where these fatal shootings took place are right next door to one another.

No arrests have been made and police say without a suspect, they can't confirm if the shooting was in fact gang-related.

Police say they need people to come forward with information in both shooting incidents.
