A teenager has died after being hit by a pickup in central Alberta Friday evening.

Emergency crews from Rocky Mountain House responded to the incident on Highway 11, 40 kilometers west of the town, around 9:45 p.m. Friday.

Investigators said a 14-year-old female pedestrian had been hit by the pickup while she was walking near an SUV, which was parked on the shoulder of the road.

The driver of the pickup told officials he stopped to offer help but an altercation occurred.

The occupants of the SUV then put the injured pedestrian in the SUV and headed towards Rocky Mountain House.

The vehicle was located in the ditch about 15 kilometers away from the pickup.

Several intoxicated people were located inside the SUV, along with the critically injured teen.

EMS declared the Eden Valley girl dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was treated in hospital and released.

RCMP said they continue to investigate.
