Police northwest of Edmonton are asking for help from the public, after a shot was fired into a rural home – but it’s unclear who fired.

Morinville RCMP were called to the home near Range Road 272 and Township Road 564 at about 9 a.m. Sunday – after the shot was reported.

When police arrived, they confirmed one shot had been fired and had penetrated through the wall of the living room of the home, and then ended up in the fireplace.

There were people inside the home at the time, luckily, no one was hurt.

Investigators believe hunters may have been in the area when the shot was fired, and the residence was not targeted – RCMP said visibility in the area was reduced by snowfall at the time.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
