Stony Plain/Spruce Grove RCMP are turning to the public for help in locating a suspect involved in armed robbery Tuesday afternoon.

Police said on June 9 at about 1:40 p.m. officers responded to a call at a CIBC bank in the town of Onoway.

According to RCMP, a man with a long-barrelled firearm entered the bank, demanded money and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The firearm was not discharged and no one was injured.

The suspect is described as:

  • Caucasian male
  • 175 cm (5'9") tall
  • Approximately 45-years-old
  • Skinny
  • Long stubble
  • Thin face

RCMP said the suspect was wearing a black and white ball cap and jacket, as well as a motocross jersey.

According to officials local schools had initiated a 'Hold and Secure' protocol.

As a precaution officers assisted in the safe departure of children from school – even though they believed the suspect had left the area.
